Listening to: From the Choirgirl Hotel. Not for long, though... it's not really matching my mood quite like I was expecting it too.

Currently Reading: Just barely started Jonathan Lethem's Gun, With Occasional Music. Kind of saving it for the train, as well as a stack of others (both fiction and non). Also, I recently read Laurie Notaro's I Love Everybody (and Other Atrocious Lies): True Tales of a Loudmouth Girl (again) in like two days, and peed myself laughing. Highly recommended. I also devoured The Broke Diaries by Angela Nissel in, like, a mere few days. Laughed until I peed. Also highly recommended.

Wishing: income. Lots of it. Other than that, life's pretty good.

I couldn't be more The current mood of ronkc@diaryland.com at www.imood.com right now.

Damned Christmas Spirit...

Okay.

First things first.

Dear friend/family member,

I am writing to ask you not to buy me presents at Wal-Mart this holiday season. Wal-Mart engages in some of the worst labor practices in the country: paying its employees substandard wages, forcing unpaid overtime on its workers and refusing to provide affordable health insurance.

Until Wal-Mart changes its ways, I won't shop at Wal-Mart and I hope you won't either. Please join me in telling Wal-Mart we won't shop at its stores until it treats its employees better.

It only took me a few seconds to sign the Wal-Mart Pledge and I'm hoping you'll sign it, too. Click here to sign the pledge.

P.S. Please forward this message to anyone that you know who might be interested.

Happy Holidays

That said...

Sorry I haven't updated in quite some time... first Thanksgiving, then finals, (then a little break), then my five-day silent spiritual retreat. I did this last year, and it nearly killed me, but it was such a beautiful time. I've never felt more peaceful (in sobriety) in my entire life. It made me cry. So, naturally, I can't wait. You will stop seeing updates from me on Sunday, then I'll be gone for five days, then I'll be back, and then I'll go to my mom's, where entries will also probably be few and far between, and then in January, you'll start seeing more of me.

So, Thanksgiving was really fun. Jamie and I drove from here (Seattle) to my Grandmother's place (Monterey County, California). We both got bitchy on the way there, and back, but we're still friends, so that's the really important part. We were constantly on the go, so I probably don't remember everything we did.... we did Carmel (where I grew up), the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the Carmel Mission, and Chukchansi Gold Casino.

I have a confession to make: I broke down today. I ate a Christmas cookie, and it was apparently laced with Christmas spirit. Because after eating the cookie, I wanted nothing more than to buy cookies. And I did. AND I bought cookie DOUGH, so I MADE cookies, cookies which I don't plan on eating. Yes, I put on my best Christmas dress and baked like a sonofabitch. Dammit.

So I guess I should finish up baking, clean up, and do some studying. Woo!!
